Everyone tells you that your life changes drastically when you become a mom. I agree. But I can honestly say, that how your life changes depends on how you become a mom. I know that sounds weird but I will explain.
Three years ago I became a mom. I married the love of my life and became a mother to a wonderful 5 year old. My life changed drastically but since Reagan is an extremely well behaved and independent little girl, life as a mother was relatively easy. Our standing Super Bowl plans were to get together with our Versailles crowd for snacks, fun and a little harmless gambling. All the kids would play while us adults watched the game.
Then we come to this year's Super Bowl. The one that was 7 months after having Alex. Now I can say "my life changed drastically" because obviously babies aren't independent. So let me share the story of my Super Bowl 2012.
We planned to go to the Padgett's around 4. After falling asleep cuddling with the little man on the couch and waking up at 3:45 we realized that wasn't going to happen and into rush mode we went. We managed to fix our appetizers, get freshened up, dress the baby, and pack all his junk and get out the door by 4:30 so not too bad there. Funny how a nap takes precedent over being at a party on time.
The break down of me "watching" the game goes something like this:
Pre-game = Matt and I working together to get some dinner into Alex without making a terrible mess.
First quarter = rocking Alex in hopes of him sleeping a bit in order to make it longer than normal that night. Giants first touchdown woke him up and there was no turning back from there.
Second quarter = sitting in the floor watching Alex play with Baby Jack who is 2 weeks older than him. Jack was trying to teach Alex how to crawl and it just about worked.
Halftime = moving to the much quieter upstairs since it was bed time and Alex was getting fussy.
Third quarter = driving home (after making sure Matt and Reagan had a ride home) and changing, feeding and putting the little man down for the night.
Fourth quarter = emptying out the Jeep and cleaning up the kitchen, retiring to the bed with 8 minutes left in the game and watching the rest of the game and the post game show while crocheting.
Not quite like any Super Bowl I have ever experienced but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Matt had a good laugh when he came home to find his 29 year old wife in bed crocheting while watching the post game show.
