Play Date!

This past weekend we got the babies all together for another play date. I believe this is our 5th one so far. They are getting crazier and crazier as the babies get bigger and more active. The grandmothers (and one great aunt, Kathy) were invited to this play date and had a great time too.

10 Months Old...

I have blogged before about how hard the monthly boppy pictures are becoming and this month was no different. He turned 10 months old on Monday and I was only 1 day late in taking the picture. SO Tuesday night I had the camera ready and had drawn out the card, with no help from the monkey climbing on me trying to get the marker, and was ready to take the picture. It was perfect because he was wearing a shirt that said "Little Dude, Big Temper" on it. So I laid him down, he smiled, I was about to take the picture and he puked. Yep, puked. Not very much but just enough to run down the front of his shirt. Nice. So off to the bath tub we went and I finally got the pictures an hour later...

Ha ha, I took your sign mom!

So big!

Goofy boy!

Little Man with Many Facial Expressions...

Alex has become very entertaining with all his many facial expressions so I thought I would share a few that were captured during his 9 month pictures and a video I got today while he was playing with a bowl of Easter eggs. Yes my child likes playing with the weirdest things, his favorite toy right now is an empty plastic 2 liter bottle.

First Word...

I am about 2 weeks late posting this but I think we can officially say we have heard Alex's first word. It was easy to predict since for the past 3 months or so all I hear to and from Frankfort is da da da da da. So I was not a bit surprised when Matt walked into the room about 2 weeks ago and Alex looks up and out comes, "da-dee" just as plain as can be. But mommy is okay with this since it is just fun to see him learn and develop. The stink bug does love for me to look at him and say "mom mom mom" and he laughs and says "da da da". Turd.

Oh the Imaginations...

Last night we took Reagan and a friend to Lexington for a little fun at Monkey Joe's. On the way home they decided to entertain themselves by making up stories and telling them to each other. Matt and I were highly entertained as well.

The first story they worked on together and was about a set of brothers named Shutup, Manners and Poop. The story involved all the funny antics of when someone asked about the brothers and they had to answer with their names like if Manners was asked what his brother's name was and he would answer, "Shutup". SO you can imagine how that went.

The second story Reagan made up was about a Mexican rabbit named Rihico that was scared of ghosts. So he found some ghost proof underwear and when we wore those he was protected.

On a separate note, this was Alex's first trip to Monkey Joe's and his first time in a bounce house. I had to run some errands so Matt stayed with the kids. He said Alex wasn't too sure about the bounce house because he was so unsteady. We put him in one more time when I got back so I could snap a picture. He liked it a little but only when he felt like he was in control.

Easter Fun...

For Alex's first Easter I bought him and Matt matching ties. Reagan went shopping with Nana and Poppy for her Easter outfit because that is tradition. We got up on Easter morning and headed to Frankfort for church with my family. After the service they do an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Matt spotted some really cute rabbit ears and Alex actually wore them for the rest of the hunt. After church we go to Matt's dad's for lunch. Unfortunately Alex slept through the entire time we were there.

We also took Alex to Lexington Green for pictures with the Easter bunny Saturday night. I know daddy was just humoring mommy since Alex won't remember it, but the pictures were really cute and they even had real bunnies as well as the traditional Easter bunny. Strangely Alex was more unsure about the real bunny, whose name was also Alex, than he was the big costumed bunny. He actually didn't mind the big one at all and even tried to bite his nose.

Here are some pictures from the Easter bunny and from church:

Gr8tness!!

Spring Break being the first week of April this year meant we were in DC for the championship game. But we all gathered in the cabin to watch UK defeat Kansas to bring home #8.

Since we weren't here to celebrate at Rupp I made sure I made it to any events I could afterwards. One of the championship events was the Trophy Tour. The championship trophy made it's way across Kentucky on a train with the coaches. It came through Frankfort on Friday so we decided to go check it out.

Cody was there too!

Coach Antigua, can I hold the trophy?

DC wrap up...

Time for all my excuses on why I am just now updating the blog....new job, new job, new job. So yes, I have a new job in which I have been swamped and unable to update the blog. Which means I am admitting that I had always updated the blog from work. This is because by the time I get home from work, get the kids feed, bathed and in bed, laundry done, dishes cleaned, and any other house chores, Matt and I are typically ready to hit the couch for a little down time and I just really don't want to be on the computer any more.

So here goes a recap of the rest of our DC trip, and this time with pictures!
Day 4 - Zoo day - well this day was hectic to say the least. We decided to drive to the zoo since there was a parking lot available there. Traffic was horrible, worse than I can describe, it took about 2 hours to drive the last 2-3 miles to the zoo. Once we got there we discovered the parking lot was full, mainly because you can reserve a spot a head of time online, which we didn't know until we got there. Once we finally got there, Matt and dad dropped us off, and they parked about 1.5 miles away, we were ready to hit the zoo. It was a beautiful day, the warmest day of the week, which caused the crowd to be huge. But the kids seemed to enjoy it and we got some cute pictures.

Alex was obsessed with these statues and would have stayed on them all day if we would have let him.
Day 5 - White House day - We were lucky enough thanks to Kathy's connection with Jennifer Chandler to score some passes for a White House tour. Our tour was at 11:30 but the restrictions for the White House were so crazy that we had to drive down to the city since we couldn't take the stroller, diaper bag or any purses with us and there was no where on site to store them. We all really enjoyed seeing the White House and it was totally worth it.
Alex and Poppy waiting for the tour.

The family after the tour.
After the White House we grabbed some lunch and then headed out to do some more sightseeing. We headed over to Arlington to see the cemetery and the changing of the guards. I had seen this once when I was in high school but it was freezing cold and since I was younger it was harder to appreciate it. That cemetery is beyond amazing in size and what it represents.

After Arlington mom took Alex back to the cabin and unfortunately hit rush hour traffic and a wreck so the "short" trip out of town took her over an hour and since it was around 5 it was Alex's dinner time and I think he told her about it most of the way home. Matt, Reagan, dad and I hit Chinatown for dinner and to check in on our Kentucky boy John Wall as the Wizards took on the Pacers. The game really wasn't that good and Wall didn't look like the fiery player that we had known and loved. But it was still neat to see an NBA game.

Day 6 - Air & Space Museum day - We decided to go check out the Air and Space Museum out at Dulles since we had heard it was much better than the one in town. So dad, Matt, Reagan, Alex and I headed out to Virginia to check it out. Mom stayed home to help Thomas after some dental work and Kathy and Jerry headed to IKEA. It was extremely impressive. The museum was in a airplane hanger but really when you went in, it didn't seem that big, until you started realizing how many planes, both big and small, they had in there. They even had one of the NASA space shuttles in there. Another successful museum day. After the museum we headed back to the cabin to meet up with the rest of the group and do one last group dinner before heading home the next day.

Sleep dog enjoyed the museum too!

Day 7 - Headed Home - Friday was all driving/riding. We hit the road after filling up the tanks at IHOP and got home about 8:30 that night. Alex barely fussed, mainly only when he got hungry at lunch time and tired as we got close to home, so it was a smooth trip home and it was nice to be home on Saturday to unpack and do what little laundry we had thanks to a washer/dryer in the cabin.

Hanging out with one of the many turtles in College Park - home of the University of Maryland Terrapins.

Family fun in DC...

Well lack of Internet in our cabin equals no pictures with the blog until I get home but I can at least give a recap of our daily adventures.

**Update on 4/15/12 equals pictures!

Road trip (Saturday and Sunday) - having never gone far than a couple of hours from home with Alex we weren't sure what to expect so we only attempted about 5 hours before stopping in Fairmont, WV (home of Mary Lou Retton in case you were wondering). Alex did well in the car. Sleeping, playing and watching a couple of DVDs. On Saturday we had about 3 hours left to go and he took it like a champ.

Saturday night was spent in the lobby of a Holiday Inn in WV cheering on our Cats against the Cards. I am pretty sure the people at the hotel thought we were crazy but we didn't care!

Cabin - since there are 8 of us on this trip we found a cabin at the campground in College Park which is close to Thomas. We were all really pleased to find a very nice place. Four bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, lots of open space and a big enough dining room that we can all eat together.

Day 1 in DC (today) - let's call this day the day of walking. We walked all over DC today. We saw lots of sights though. We made it through the Natural History museum, saw Ford's theatre, the Washington Monument, the White House, Lincoln memorial, WWII memorial, and the reflecting pool but it's wasn't reflecting much since it was drained and under construction.

I even got to walk some!

At the Lincoln Memorial.

The museum was really cool. Reagan was very excited about the butterfly exhibit. You could go into a butterfly room and hang out with hundreds of butterflies. Mom and Kathy took the kids in since you had to pay to go in. We were able to watch through a window and see Reagan hold a big butterfly and see one and on Alex's head.

Even the museum knew Cats eat birds!

We represented UK well as we all sported our blue around our nation's Capitol. Even spelling out C-A-T-S in front of the Washington monument.

Up next tomorrow is the zoo. I am sure I will have good stories after that!

Well that's all I have for tonight as halftime comes to an end and I finish watching the cats win #8! Go Cats!
